Evangelism Board
The Evangelism Board exists to encourage people to live a life of faith in our community.
- We strive to reach out to people, whether they are Lutherans relocating to our city, Christians from other traditions, or the inquisitive Searcher that has never really belonged to any faith tradition.
- Once you decide that you want ALC to be your church community, the Evangelism Board works with you to help you feel settled into our congregation. This is primarily achieved by hosting the Discover Ascension class series.
Discover Ascension New Member classes
The Evangelism Board conducts a class series 3 times a year, normally around September, February, and May. This 3 session class meets during the Sunday school hour (9:15 am) in the Conference room. The Conference room is located just to the right of the Sanctuary doors. It is a friendly, interactive series of sessions where some basics about our church are presented. These include:
- Who are we at Ascension? – What are we about? What do we do?
- Lutheranism 101
- How is our church organized?
- What are the various ministries and activities and how can I fit in?
Like most organizations, we have our share of acronyms. We get used to throwing them around without thinking about them, but they can be confusing if you don’t know what they stand for! CLC, CPC, IHN, KPC, etc., all represent various ministries and outreaches of Ascension. Discussing these in class not only helps explain more about what’s important to us at Ascension, but why.
We have found this class to be very helpful in helping new members to feel better acquainted with the church, allowing them to get to know the Pastors and Staff, and to helping you feel at home with us. We hope you’ll come join us!
