Sharing the Burden
Posted on August 28, 2019 | Posted by Mary Stoneback
On any given night 60,000 families throughout the United States are without a home. Nationally, that means 7.4 out of every 10,000 families are homeless. There are a number of factors that render a family homeless. Loss or change of work, or illness to name a few. The burden that comes with homelessness is not easy to carry and families with children need support in getting back on their feet and into affordable housing.
In Colorado Springs, Family Promise addresses this need by partnering with local faith communities. This past Sunday, members from Beth El Mennonite Church in Co. Springs welcomed family guests for a two-week stay where they will stay in safe, comfortable sleeping rooms. But it takes a lot of preparation and coordination to host families for two-weeks. All meals, breakfast, lunch and supper are provided, as well as overnight hosts to make sure family’s needs are attended to. To help share in the responsibilities, Ascension Lutheran Church has partnered with Beth El for hosting support.
Join us in praying for the families we host over the next two weeks, that through the meals and conversations shared, their burdens be lessened and they experience God’s unconditional love, as we meet them where they at in their journey.
